In The Snoring Bird, Bernd Heinrich writes that "timewise, science is 99.9 percent dog work. But the 0.1 percent inspiration...is at least as essential as the boring, repetitive, mechanical steps required for getting there. Those 0.1 percent moments make all the tedious hours worthwhile."
